Porter joins the Alouettes after spending nine seasons in the NFL, including eight with the Oakland Raiders. He was chosen in the second round, 47th overall, by the Raiders in the 2000 NFL Draft.
In his eight seasons with Oakland, he notably helped the team reach Super Bowl XXXVII during the 2002 season, when the offence was coached by Marc Trestman. During that season, Porter caught 51 passes for 688 yards for the NFL's top offence. In his nine NFL seasons, he scored 31 career touchdowns.
Whitaker's back, Slaughter arrives
The team also signed running back Brandon Whitaker as well as receiver and return specialist Rashaud Slaughter. Both players signed two year deals.
Whitaker will be in his fourth season with the Als. Used sporadically last year, he stepped up when the team needed him. In his first start in 2010, he rushed for 74 yards and gained 44 passing yards.
Slaughter is coming to Montreal after splitting time in the Arena Football League and the Indoor Football League last year.
