HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today the signings of non-import receiver Johnny Aprile, import linebacker David Caldwell and import defensive end Joseph LeBeau.

Aprile, a 6-3, 220-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, caught 120 passes for 2,155 receiving yards yards and 15 touchdowns over four seasons at Queen's, earning first-team OUA all-star status in 2012.

Aprile was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with the 16th overall pick in the 2012 CFL Draft before being acquired by the Ticats in a January 28 trade.
Caldwell, a 5-11, 212-pound native of Montclair, New Jersey, played four seasons at William and Mary, making 280 tackles and four interceptions with the Tribe before NFL stints with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants.  In 2011, Caldwell started 13 of the 16 games he appeared in with the Colts.

LeBeau, a 6-0, 245-pound native of New Orleans, Louisiana, spent time with the St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars last year after wrapping up his collegiate career at Jackson State.  In two seasons with the Tigers, LeBeau registered 147 tackles, 28 quarterback sacks and was named All-SWAC both years.

Aprile we knew about - good to have him signed now. The other two sound like good prospects but will have to show that they are good enough in training camp!

@TFmcb: aprile will be in tough with the cats to gain a roster spot as a C WR!! what will help him is his ability as a return man!! does his signing mean C WR giguere is on the hot seat?!! the other 2 signings will turn out to be nothing BUT TC fodder!!

Aprile replaces Charbonneau-Campeau who has gone to the Stamps and provides NI depth behind Fantuz and Giguere. He does have lots of company though. No reason to put Giguere on the hot seat as he was having a great season before injury kept him out for several games. The D players maybe TC fodder or not - "only time will tell"!
