WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are excited to announce that non-import wide receivers Kito Poblah and Cory Watson have signed contract extensions with the team. As per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Watson is coming off his second season in the CFL, both with Winnipeg, and had a solid 2011 campaign. Playing in every game, including the East Final and Grey Cup, Watson recorded 69 receptions in the regular season, for 793 yards and one touchdown, finishing third in team receiving yards.
He was named top Canadian in week four of the CFL season when the Bombers defeated the Argos in Toronto, recording seven receptions for 75 yards. The Blue Bombers’ top draft pick in 2010, Cory Watson played in 15 games as a rookie, recording 17 receptions for 277 yards and one touchdown.
"I’m very excited and grateful to extend my contract with Winnipeg,” said Watson. "I’m looking forward to building off of my 2011 season and helping us get back to the Grey Cup game in Toronto. The Bomber organization has been great to me and I am thrilled to be a Bomber for years to come.”
Poblah is entering his second season with the Blue Bombers after being chosen in the 2011 supplemental draft. Poblah saw action in three regular season games, and the 2011 Grey Cup, after battling injuries throughout the season. He tallied 10 receptions for 99 yards, including nine receptions for 89 yards in the Labour Day Classic in Regina.
"We are very pleased to lock up, what we feel, are two valuable Canadian players in our league,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack.
"Cory has shown tremendous progression from year one to year two, and we are looking forward to watching him take his game to the next level in 2012. With Kito, he had some unfortunate injuries nag him for a lot of 2011, but in the short duration in which he did play, we were very pleased. His outing in Regina last season showed us all how much potential he has, and we’re excited to see him bring that level of play consistently in 2012.”
