Brink inked: Quarterback joins Als practice roster | | Official Site of the Canadian Football League Staff

MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that the club has signed import veteran CFL QB Alex Brink and import receiver Mardy Gilyard, to the club's practice roster. As of Wednesday, CFL teams have been permitted to add five additional players to their respective practice rosters (up to 14 players in total) for the final month of the regular season.

Brink spent the past three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, playing in 26 games while making seven starts. During his three-year tenure with the Bombers, the Eugene, OR native completed 225 of his 397 attempts for 2,544 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He also rushed 120 times for 462 yards and 14 touchdowns, seven of which came in 2012. Brink, a former seventh round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2008, originally signed with the Blue Bombers in 2010 and made one start during his rookie season.

Gilyard, a fourth round pick by St. Louis Rams in the 2010 NFL Draft, appeared in 11 games with the Rams, catching six passes for 63 yards in his rookie season. The Daytona Beach, FL native has also played with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, returning 16 kickoffs in the NFL for a career average of 22.3 yards.

He started his college career at the University of Cincinnati as a cornerback but was later chosen to All-American teams as both a wide receiver and a kickoff returner. He caught 168 passes for 2,467 yards and 22 touchdowns and contributed on special teams with the Bearcats, maintaining a 29.2 average on 78 kickoff returns for 2,275 yards and four majors.

The Alouettes also announced that the team has released import quarterback Nathan Enderle.

The way that CFL QBs are falling like trees in a hurricane, a team is wise to have a bunch of them in reserve.

For all the good moves Montreal management has made in the past, they never really did address the issue of replacing AC. For one he never got hurt, and he never lost a step, either. But sooner or later age catches up. There will always be only one Gordie Howe!!!

Montreal has picked up a backup quarterback with a bit of CFL experience. Nothing wrong with that. And in the Montreal environment he may develop beyond his Winnipeg experience.

Look forward to seeing Gilyard maybe. A team can never have enough speed.

Gilyard was pretty good at Cincy. If he can adapt, he'll do well in Montreal.
