CFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Canadian Football League Week #5
Toronto, ON – (July 30, 2008) – Ryan Dinwiddie, Montez Murphy, Ian Smart and Paris Jackson were named the CFL’s top players for week #5, the Canadian Football League announced today.
Players of the Week are selected for on-field excellence by members of the Canadian football broadcasters.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB – Ryan Dinwiddie – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Highlights / Key Stats:
In his regular season CFL debut, Ryan Dinwiddie led the Blue Bombers to their first victory of 2008 by completing 24 of 39 passes for a league-high 450 yards and throwing the game winning touchdown. Dinwiddie capped-off a last minute drive by completing a perfect pass to Romby Bryant in the corner of the end zone. He also rushed six times for 26 yards. Dinwiddie finished the game with a passer efficiency rating of 110.
On the season Dinwiddie has completed 44 of 72 (61.1%) for 677 yards,two touchdowns, two interceptions and a passer efficiency rating of 89.9. He has also rushed 12 times for 64 yards and one touchdown.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DL – Montez Murphy – Edmonton Eskimos
Edmonton Eskimos 19 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 13
Highlights / Key Stats:
Montez Murphy recorded five tackles and two sacks as the Edmonton Eskimos held the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to just 13 points at home. Murphy was a factor in the backfield all game tackling running back Jesse Lumsden three times in addition to his two sacks.
Montez Murphy has compiled 12 tackles and two sacks this season for the Eskimos.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KR/PR – Ian Smart – BC Lions

Highlights / Key Stats:
Ian Smart returned five kicks for 196 yards including a 91-yard touchdown in the Lions third victory of the season. Smart also returned five punts for 32 yards.
With time running out in the third quarter, and the Lions trailing 27-16, Smart fielded a kickoff inside BC’s 20 yard line and returned it 91 yards down the left sideline for a score.
On the season Ian Smart leads the CFL with 599 kick return yards and is third in the league with 208 punt return yards. Smart is also third in the league with 825 combined yards.

WR – Paris Jackson – B.C. Lions

Highlights / Key Stats:
Paris Jackson had five catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in the Lions victory. Jackson scored on a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to cap-off another stellar game for the receiver.
On the season Paris Jackson is fifth in the CFL with 410 receiving yards on 23 catches for a 17.8 yard average.
