EDMONTON – Edmonton Eskimos President and CEO Len Rhodes announced Saturday afternoon that the club has relieved Eric Tillman of his duties as general manager effectively immediately.

“I have spent considerable time looking at the future direction of this club and did not see Eric as a part of this team moving forward,” Rhodes said. “We will begin our search for a new general manager immediately and hope to have a successor in place by the end of the calendar year.”

Tillman joined the Eskimos in September 2010. Since then, the club has had back-to-back playoff appearances. In his 12 years as general manager with Edmonton, Saskatchewan, BC, Toronto and Ottawa, Tillman has four Grey Cup appearances with three wins.

Edmonton finished its regular season Friday with a loss, 30-27 to the Calgary Stampeders.

The Eskimos qualified for the post-season on a cross-over berth and will take on the Toronto Argonauts in East Semi-Final.

Maybe he is the guy the TiCats need to make our team better.

What the Ti-Cats need is a defence that can stop a team driving in the 4th Q and a little more pass protection to cut down on qb fumbles & ints.

Just making the playoffs once in the past 3 years is not the reason for Tillmans dismissal it has more to do with the entire way that he ran the team and how he treated the players and other personnel with the team that was the reason that made this a completely obvious decision for the ownership

Oh come on... Maciocia was awful, and was given many chances with the Esks, as both HC and GM. He took a successful team and killed it for many years, even after his departure! Interesting that no other CFL team will touch him... And as for Tillman, good riddance. I'm glad that Esks brass learned from the Maciocia debacle, not to give a poor performing GM too many chances!

I wonder if the "aha" moment came when they realized that 3rd stringer Nicholls threw more TD passes in one game and a quarter than their anointed starter Jyles did in half a season! Obviously the Ricky Ray trade was seen as a bust!

Three playoff appearances in 3 years is not enough to keep your job in Edmonton. The next GM will have to be a real optimist.

What took so long? After trading away Ricky Ray for quarterbacks that were not adequate to be playing anymore, and not be able to develop quarterbacks like the B.C. Lions do, like any one of them can play and be successful, there is something wrong here. Eric took the team backwards rather than forward. But there are a lot of positives in most of the players here, other than return team and quarterbacking. Matt Nichols is definitely ready for prime time!

Why would you do this before playoffs? There's got to be something I don't know.

That just puts makes the team that more unstable, more so probably for the coaching staff.

actually with the way that Tillman has treated the players and other personnel on this team making this move just before the playoffs probably does much more for the morale of the team then anything else they could have done.now the players will be able to go out there and perform and know that it will not be Tillman that is the one that will be getting the credit for the wins

Ok thanks for the update. When you support one team you don't hear all the inside info about other ones. If that's true, that's a shame for the team on the one hand, but like you say probably for the best at this point.
