HAMILTON -- Non-import linebacker Shomari Williams becomes the second defender out of Regina, signing a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Cats also announced the signing of former Stampeders DL Brian Bulcke.
Entering his third fourth year as a pro, Williams has established himself as one of the more versatile defenders in the game, playing linebacker and defensive line at times.
"I would've like to stay in Saskatchewan but going to Hamilton is a good fit for me,'' Williams said. "It's a lot closer to home and I'm going to a very good team.''
Last season was Williams’ best, racking up 59 defensive tackles, 8 special teams tackles and 2 quarterback sacks. He currently sits with 122 total tackles, 5 quarterback sacks and an interception for his career.
The Queen’s product was one of the most highly-touted prospects to enter the CFL Canadian Draft in recent years and went 1st overall to Sasaktchewan in 2010.
Bulcke, meanwhile, appeared in 14 games for the Stamps in 2012, registering a career-high 18 tackles and two sacks in the process.
Bulcke played 35 games over four seasons for the Stanford Cardinal.
He played defensive tackle and nose guard and also had one start at linebacker as a freshman in 2006. Over the course of his collegiate career, he amassed 51 tackles, five sacks and one fumble recovery. The first sack of his career came during his sophomore season in a game against Notre Dame. In 2008, he had a two-sack game against UCLA.
