HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continued their defensive renovation on Sunday, signing free agent linebacker Marcellus Bowman to a contract.
Bowman joins the Ticats afer spending the last three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he reeled off three-straight seasons with at least 50 tackles.
“Marcellus is an extremely talented player and a game-changer on defence. We’re well aware that he recently underwent a medical procedure but feel comfortable making this signing after consulting with our doctors. Our medical staff will work closely with Marcellus to ensure he returns to the field at 100% as soon as possible. We’re very excited to have Marcellus on board,” said Vice President of Football Operations, General Manager and Head Coach Kent Austin.
Bowman is the latest of five defensive players to sign with the Ticats, joining LB Shomari Williams, DBs Evan McCollough and Deon Beasley and DE Brian Bulcke in the Hammer.
The 26-year-old Girard, OH. native has yet to play a season without sustaining an injury. In 2012, he missed the first month of the season due to a lower-body injury.
Upon his return in Week 6 versus the Alouettes, Bowman proceeded to rack up 52 tackles, a pair of sacks and one interception in only 13 games.
