EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Eskimos announced the signing of import defensive back Chris Thompson to a contract extension, keeping the six-year CFL veteran out of free agency next week.
As per club policy, terms of the contract are not released.
Last season, the six-foot, 199-pound product of Nicholls State started in all 18 regular season games and the Eastern Semi-Final. He racked up 51 defensive tackles, six knockdowns, two forced fumbles and five interceptions for 84 yards.
Since entering the league in 2007, he has amassed a career total of 264 tackles, two special teams tackles and 26 interceptions in 114 games. The New Orleans native is a two-time division all-star and two-time CFL all-star.
“Chris is a savvy veteran defender with remarkable character who does an exceptional job in the locker room,” says Eskimo Head Coach Kavis Reed.
With the signing, the Esks crossed a major item off their free agency to-do list.
General Manager Ed Hervey still has to make a decision on re-signing DB Weldon Brown, WR Marcus Henry and Defensive End Julius Williams.
